NBC plans to bring back “Law & Order” next season, making the show the longest-running drama in TV history, [Angela Bromstad, NBC President of Primetime Programming] said.

“I’m a ‘Law & Order’ junkie,” Bromstad said. “I wouldn’t want to be responsible for not having ‘Law & Order’ break the record.”

via BusinessWeek. Twitter hat tip to @clue_bat for the heads up.

I’d been skeptical of renewal early this season based on L&O’s dreadful ratings, but they’d picked up recently to the “acceptable for Friday” levels of 1.5-1.7 for adults 18-49 suggesting another season on NBC was possible.

TV by the Numbers

Told you so.

I know some of you might be tired with these "lists", but given Ebert's status as a film critic, I thought his picks for the decade's best would be interesting at the very least. And no, this wasn't posted yet.

In a lawsuit that arguably defies the very fabric of Playboy, a woman who was fired by Playboy Enterprises claims Hugh Hefner prefers younger women.

Jennifer Lewis, a former Guest Relations Coordinator for the Playboy Mansion, claims she was fired after she turned 47 and replaced by a 33-year-old woman. The suit claims Lewis, who is suing Hef as well as other Playboy big wigs, gave the defendants "over ten of the best years of her life."

Lewis claims beginning last year, she was singled out and subjected to a hostile work environment. Lewis claims it got so bad she was placed on anti-depressants.

In the lawsuit, filed today in L.A. County Superior Court, Lewis is asking for unspecified damages.

No immediate comment from Playboy.

'Criminal Minds' Spin-Off Pilot Casts Director

The upcoming Criminal Minds spin-off, set to begin production in February, has found itself a director, and no other than the same guy who helmed the original Criminal Minds pilot that aired some four years ago.

Richard Shepard, who directed "Extreme Aggressor" on CBS' Criminal Minds, has signed on to handle the show's spin-off as well, or at least the pilot episode, Variety reports.

"The idea of coming back and doing this spinoff was exciting," Shepard said. "I was proud of that show, and I haven't directed a procedural since Criminal Minds. They came to me with this great opportunity."

Shepard, who also has in his belt the Ugly Betty pilot in addition to 30 Rock and In the Motherhood episodes, has signed a deal with CBS to direct two of the network's pilots this season. Aside from the still title-less and cast-less Criminal Minds spin-off, the other one is yet to be determined.

Just like NCIS: Los Angeles, the spin-off pilot will also double as an episode from the mothership. Called a backdoor pilot, the branch-out will center on another group of FBI profiles.

"I'm not ready yet to commit to doing a TV show for five years," he said. "This gives me the freedom to look at projects already in the system and come on with a fresh pair of eyes. So far that's worked out for me... I love doing pilots; they're like mini-movies. You get to help cast a show and set a look to it."

So far, four characters need to be cast for the Criminal Minds spin-off - Cooper, the team leader; Gina, an undercover agent; Mick, a firearms specialist; and Prophet, a born-again ex-con.

Reid and I share sentiments on this, but there you go. Any Criminal Minds without Reid sounds like a shitty idea to me.

Twenty-two years after the smash hit Three Men and a Baby, Disney has plans for another sequel. Tom Selleck’s manager confirms to EW that Three Men and a Bride is in the works. Selleck, Ted Danson, and Steve Guttenberg played the three bachelors comically challenged to take care of a little girl in the first two movies. WENN first reported that Guttenberg revealed the project and implied that Selleck and Danson were also on board. (Reps for Danson have not immediately replied to requests for confirmation.) The script is currently still being written but Selleck’s manager confirms that the logline, for those who can’t guess, is essentially: The little girl gets married.

As the new year is ushered in, it's looking like Susan Boyle will celebrate a sixth straight week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week, as industry prognosticators project her "I Dreamed a Dream" album may sell about 150,000 to 165,000 copies by week's end on Sunday (Jan. 3) night.

As we've been reporting, Boyle's "Dream" has been swiftly catching up to Taylor Swift's "Fearless," which is currently the top selling album of 2009. Now, with one week left to go, it's looking like "Dream" may fall just a bit short in the race.

Presently, "Fearless'" 2009 total stands at 3,157,000, while "Dream" is at 2,982,000.

The Olympic snowboarding hopeful Kevin Pearce was in critical condition Thursday after sustaining a head injury during training in the halfpipe in Park City, Utah.

Pearce hit his head against the edge of the halfpipe and was knocked unconscious. He was flown to the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, where doctors planned external ventricular drainage to relieve fluid buildup in the brain, according to Pearce’s mother, Pia.

Pearce, a 22-year-old from Norwich, Vt., was among many of the world’s top halfpipe riders in Park City preparing to compete next week in a competition at Mammoth Mountain, Calif., an event that will serve as part of the Olympic trials for the American team.

Pearce, a favorite to make the Olympic team, is the rare rider who has beaten the 2006 Olympic gold medalist Shaun White in head-to-head competitions the past couple of years.

Mike Jankowski, the Olympic halfpipe coach for the United States, said that Pearce was injured while trying a double cork, a supremely difficult trick — essentially a twisting double back flip — that most of the top men are trying to add to their repertory this season.

“He did it a little too hard, put a little too much oomph into it, and over-rotated on his second flip,” Jankowski said.

He said that Pearce seemed to strike the edge of the pipe just above his eye. He said that the preliminary diagnosis was for a “significant concussion” and characterized Pearce’s injuries as “serious, critical.” A team trainer and medical director were with Pearce at the hospital.

Pearce’s father is Simon Pearce, one of the most renowned glass blowers in the world, whose Vermont-based company has retail outlets across the Northeast, including one on Park Avenue.

Wow, SMAP you are so awesome they are/were my favorite band in the 90's. I even flew to Japan to follow them on tour. They have always held MJ in high regard and never once believed in all the gossip/talk that surrounded MJ. In the video, Takuya does the moonwalk, Goro does the BAD knife fight, Nakai does the Smooth Criminal lean, Shingo tackles Thriller and Tsuyoshi.. erm, I totally forgot what Tsuyoshi did. There is a huge "Heal the World" bit at the end. LOLZ.

English subtitled stuff under the cut.
